The classes most students are interested in will take priority in being offered.

To ensure the classes will occur please register by July 14th. If there

are not enough participants the class will be canceled.

All class and course registration is encouraged to be completed 7 days

prior to the program beginning. Classes registered under 7 days will

incure an additional $2.50/class or $25/course.

Science in your world: Classes meet on Wednesday beginning Sept.

11th at 11:30-12:30 p.m.

These classes will incorporate concepts from various branches of science. Go to

the calendar to look at what topic will be covered each month. Double click on the

class, “6-9 yr. olds…” on a date on the calendar to view class topics and

descriptions.

All classes are taught through investigation, experimentation, and observation.

Real science tools, data collection, and analysis are implemented.

NOTE: The dates for the classes are tentative and may change pending the class

interests and pacing. Not all topics below will be covered. Participants can vote

to ensure specific topics of interest will be covered.

15 classes for $200 or $20/class (includes a $40 non-refundable material fee)

Hydrologist

Explore the water cycle, watershed, water composition, properties, uses and much more. Naturalist Set out on adventures and explore what is in the great outdoors. Your youth will learn about ecology (species, populations, communities, ecosystems, biomes, habitats, food chain, adaptations and much more). Learn to use dichotomous keys for leaf identification, perform line transects. Data collection and analysis will be apart of their discovery. Geologist What is soil, porosity, permeability, minerals , & rocks? How do we get rocks? What is in them? How do we preserve soil? Zoologist Learn about classification by discovering the 5 types of invertebrates and various invertebrates along with their characteristics. Learn about 3 types of fish and dissect one. Discover the difference between a frog and a toad. Discover adaptations of birds including which beaks are best for what food. Learn how can identifying different teeth tell what animal eats. What’s the Matter? Using science tools, measurements, data collection and interpretation students will learn about properties of matter: distance, mass, weight, volume and the atom. They will discover how to identify physical and chemical changes.

Discovering Simple Machines

Explore concepts of simple machines, force, work and more through many amazing experiments, designing and building projects. Weather Kid Ages Discover how the Earth's atmosphere brings your weather. Through various experiments, arts, crafts, and gathering data from your own weather station students will learn and become a mock network meteorologist. They will gather and interpret data to make a weather forecast. Student will create the cloud types and play a water cycle game. My Body --

Students will explore their muscular skeletal system and the largest organ they have,

their skin. They will discover the 3 purposes of bones. They will determine the different

types of joints they have and how they work. They will create their own working model

with the various joint types. They will learn the names of 7 or more bones and make a

model of a femar bone. They will learn first aid for broken bones and how bones heal.

They will discover the 3 types of muscles and how test their cardiac and flexor skeletal

muscles. By being a forensics detective, they will learn about their skin.

Full of Energy --

Investigate the different forms of energy including light, heat, and mechanical.

Experiment with the law that energy is neither created or destroyed. Discover the many

forms of energy and how it can be stored. While exploring light energy students will

learn how it travels, has colors, can split & convert to heat energy.

Day and Night --

How do we have day and night, seasons, tides, and an eclipse. What is the Lunar

landscape like? Create different types of galaxies. Discover our solar system, types of

stars and the their life cycles.

Magnetism 101 -- Three Classes,

Youth explore magnets and their roles in our lives.

•Student will discover 4 properties of magnets and how they work. •Discover what materials may be magnetized. •Observe different types of magnetic fields. •Discover what materials the magnetic field can travel through. •Experiment which type of magnet is the strongest? •Discuss what magnets are used for? •Learn what a solenoid is and make one? Students will make a flying butterfly and go “fishing”, and race cars, make a compass, and magnetic field art. For the finale students will build a working train signal for their train track.

Robotic Zoo Helper --

The monkeys are hungry at the zoo and a sick monkey needs to go to the

veterinarian.

Youth will create a robot using the LEGO robotics EV3 system to help the zoo. They will learn the following: ¨ Name 6 sensors the robot may use and how they compare with our senses. ¨ Using deduction youth will compare what we use to move and what the robots uses to move. ¨ They will integrate motors, sensors, and develop software to control the robot. ¨ Learn Lab View – EV3 programming language to move the bot forward & backward ¨ Name 3 types of turns and program the bot to carry one of the turns ¨ Define the three types of turns and demonstrate them with your body and the robot ¨ Created and program a robot to deliver bananas to the zoo and return with a monkey to the vet. Globe Trekker -- Pack your suitcase and travel the globe to discover biome and the organisms that thrive in them. Fill up your passport of world exploration with knowledge of climate, adaptations, habitats, food webs, resource management and more.
